LOCAL CONSERVATIONISTS HONORED AT STATE SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT CONVENTION
Dale and Barb Fredrickson of Chisago County were recently honored as outstanding conservationists at the annual meeting of the Minnesota Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts, December 6-8, 2014 in Bloomington, Minn. They were selected by the Chisago Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) for the award.
Each year, the state’s SWCDs recognize individuals and organizations for outstanding accomplishments in implementing conservation practices and improving Minnesota’s natural resources. The award program is conducted with support from The Farmer magazine.
According to Craig Mell, District Administrator of the Chisago SWCD, Dale and Barb Fredrickson were recognized for a variety of reasons. The Fredrickson’s operate a 140 acre farm, raising primarily corn, soybeans, and wheat. After retirement from Pillsbury, Dale used his machining skills to modify his no-till planter and is currently working on an implement for seeding cover crops. Dale sees no-till as a way to improve overall health of the soil along with saving time and fuel.
The Fredrickson’s have also planted thousands of trees and perennial plants on their property and are active members of the Audubon Society. They are proud of the nearly 40 bird feeders on their property!
“We’re really proud of Dale and Barb for what they have done for conservation in Chisago County,” said Mell.
